Quake IV Gold baby!!!

Heh... I'm definitely going to take a close look at this one.
I've always liked UT better than Quake, but Epic seems to be leaning more towards vehicular combat/Conquest/ONS while Quake 4 seems to be geared more towards the traditional DM/CTF shooter (my kind of game).
It'll be interesting to see how they turn out.

Friend of mine, who happens to be a little slow (by that I mean mentally, so he rushes out to buy the hype, but probably the reason he likes me), has it. I plan on previewing it this weekend from him first. The disaster known as Doom3 has me extremely gun shy and there's no way I'm dumping coin without demoing it. Quit frankly, with burning sensation in my butt from Doom3, I don't see how Quake 4 is going to change my impression of what it will be like.
Take everything I like about UT, do a complete 180, and you get Quake. Either I'll have to hate UT to like it or I'll be just as disappointed with it as I was with Doom3....I'm guessing the latter.

LOL
Yeah... I'm pretty much in complete agreement. Doom 3 me gave nightmares (And not because it was scary, rather because it sucked so amazingly bad). GG, can't shoot and hold a flashlight at the same time.
Ace... Can you write up a mini-review of Q4 after you play it at your buddy's house, and post it here? I'm curious what you think of it since we appear to be on the same page regarding Doom, Quake and UT.

Ace I have never heard your opinion about doom3 before....... thanks for sharing. Dork!!
A couple things....
1) You guys said 'buy' the game? lol Now thats good stuff.
2) I ahve q4 and the multiplayer is ars but the single player, which they clearly focused on more as the multi feels like an afterthought, is actually pretty fun. It has the same feel as the single player from q2 and I enjoyed that for some time. I did hop online and while I played recognized that it has fewer features than q3 does and q3 is almost 6 yrs old. It feels like painkiller multiplayer which is just a joke.
UT still reigns for multiplayer but I enjoy a good single player. Nothing beats Half Life 2 this year or any year really except System Shock 2 got close and Deus Ex was very good.
I also have F.E.A.R. which came out the same day as Q4 and if your looking for a great tactical shooter meets The Grudge, horror genre, then grab this one because so far it's very entertaining.
*laughs out loud that your paying for it still......

I tried the demo, and it crashed my video card. I have an nVidea 6800GT.
In the game publisher's website forum I found out that the game causes my card, and apparently only the 6800GT to overheat.
I won't even considering buying the game until I'm sure that It's playable on my machine.
