Mom said rats almost that big used to infest her house as a child in Oklahoma about 50 years or so ago (confirmed by her sisters on our last visit down there). Said she once saw one standing on its hind legs, drinking out of the toilet. After hearing that story, I no longer chide her for being deathly afraid of the little buggers.
