Dryer Lint

Mrs. Law is off to Seattle for the Microsoft MVP summit, and to visit her brother--who works for Monolith btw, the people that made the game F.E.A.R. (hopfully I've got a free copy heading my way) Anyways, while she's away I'm having to take care of all the things she normally handles like feeding her cat, and my laundry.

So last night I loaded my jeans into the dryer, cleaned the lint screen, and pressed start. I got to wondering... where does all the lint come from.

I know I spend lots of time sitting in one place... But I don't gather that much dust...

And why is her cat only friendly to me when she's gone (or anytime I'm eating chips)

Lint has been a mystery to me too. I never knew my clothes picked up that much excess material...including dead skin... :?

The lint is fiber that is loosened from the fabric of the clothing that is drying. The clothes are rubbing against the sides of the dryer compartment. The friction abraids the surface of the cloth, removing fine particles much as if it were a very fine sandpaper.

And dryer lint is clean; it's just been washed, hasn't it?.

Linter dry (Linter dry = Dryer lint/2) is 0.00202% more meaningful, but only if one is traveling at > .64413 light speed relative to the lint. This is purely theoretical so far, of course, since no known human drying device has achieved anything approaching that speed. We have no data on nonhuman drying devices at this time.

And, as you imply, in nonrelativistic contexts the question is moot anyway.

Given this theory...would Dingleberries be the butt lint equivalent to naval lint? I am sure we have all long pondered...

Cats love to lay on things that stay in one spot, and collect chip lint on there jeans. :wink:

So that cat hates you when Mrs.Law is around and when you are'nt eating chips?!? Interesting
