The slow death of my Vid card!
Welp its slowly passing to the next world yes my good ole 9500 is moving on sadly. So looks like im heading towards the 9800 Gti pro. Thats what my budget can handle at the moment. Going to order it on line and save some big bucks!!! Question is should I go for the 9800 gti 128 or the 256???? About a 30 dollar difference and a little game play difference. any suggestions?
I'll help if I can Ven. Give me some more info though because there is no such card as a 9800 gt or gti??
Did you mean xt or pro? You can get a new pro for around 130 or so and the xt's around 190 or so.
I personally think your nuts not to get a 6600gt because that will blow the 9800 our of the water at around 145.00. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130220
If your a diehard ati fan the look at the x700 pro at least so you can have directx 9 compatibility. They start around 140 as well.
The definate leader performance wise would be the 6600 series by nvidia.
Take a look at some benchmarks for the cards your looking for at anandtech.com and maybe firingsquad.com to start with.
The 9800 is ok but showing it's age.
Hope that helps.

.avaris wrote:Well it really depends on what you're doing since the 128 can easily handle Unreal. I mean, unless you're doing something really heavy, or want to prepare for the future, then take the 256. And by the way Nonstop, he doesn't have that much money as you do to blow it on 6600 GTI's
Actually their around the same price. Go check newegg or zipzoomfly.

Welp Thx for all the help but when it came down to it I went with the --- ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB AGP. Not the best but better the the 9500 I was runnen. Got it for $129.00-$10.00=$119.00.
Threw Mwave, pretty good deal couldnt pass it up. I figure 2 more years and UT2007 knock on wood will be out, we will just buy a new Comp, thats the reason im not going to pump alot into this one at the moment. This should get a good 90/100 fps so Ill take that Thx for all the input I took it all into consideration. Vex
BTW. 2DAY DELIVERY BABY! Still hate waiting though, 9500 hold on you can make it 2 more dayz lol.

That will do vex. You could have purchased an x700 though if your ati friendly.
From firingsquad:
- - x700 will be about the same as 9800 speedwise.
- the x700 has all the directx 9.0c shader/pixel technologies, the 9800 is a directx 8 card,
- the x700 will be more compatible with upcoming games,
- Both the x700 and 9800 get toasted by the 6600gt for the same price.
From firingsquad:
Wait a sec LOL all I care about is UT Non you should know that hehe, and by your chart there the x700 is running a 64 and the 9800 is holding at a fair 63.7 i'll take it!! haha.. Ya have to remember now i've been stuck with my ole 9500 running at somewhere 35 to 40 :/ Heck i'll take anything Vex
