Need help choosing budget vid card

Postby Prozac » Tue Feb 24, 2009 8:17 am

Hey gang, I'm on a tight budget, but I'm trying to pick a vid card (Nvidia hopefully - but I'm open to ATI). I could probably spend $130 to $150 but is there a card that will play UT3 or Fallout3 in that price range. :(

Just wondering if there is any hope. You have to consider that all this time I've been on TAM with Ti I have been playing off of the video chip on the motherboard with no card at all and it's working fine for UT2004. Any suggestions?

Holy Vajamas, Prozac

Here are my current system specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400 2.29ghz
RAM 768 MB
Windows XP
Sound Blaster Audigy SE

Wow
That is good price for that card but be sure you have a decent power supply.
also good cooling on the case as it runs hot. I have that card that I paid almost 300.00 for.
Nvidia still having troubles and trying to pull off some deceptions so stay away from them.

dude, i'm running an eVGA 8500GT. it plays ut2k4 just fine and it even plays ut3 pretty darn well.

i went to newegg and looked at an eVGA Geforce 9400GT for $66.00. hell yeah.

Nvidia makes a good card but for the extra cash I would invent in the 4879 that has ddr5 RAM vs the low end 9400.
Here is a link to some grahics charts that ought to make your decision easier.

The 4870 was a top dog for a long while . The 9400 is just a "filler" card.

the reason i mentioned the 9400GT was because he asked for a budget card.

oh yes, and you know all about that 'filler' stuff don't you porky?
