Xfire, COD4, UT2K4

Postby Trinity » Mon Nov 26, 2007 12:35 pm

I picked up COD4 on Friday and have been trying to play online. I find it frustrating so far, but haven't given up yet. Anyway, I decided to give xfire another shot so I can find friends who are playing. I believe I am Becca007 (nickname:Trinity). I will double check when I get home. Look me up if you want to play sometime :).

Note: I'm still playing UT2004 too.

Hey Trin don’t give up yet it is a painful process. You actually have to keep pursuing the achievements and unlocking things. Really by the time you have 200 headshots with the AK you are actually proficient with the AK so it serves a purpose in the end. I have been playing more Xbox 360 COD 4 at the moment but with the new monitor I will be splitting time. I will get xfire tonight and post that here so we can play sometime soon.

I was wondering where you went.

I will be playing UT3 soon so I dont get left too far behind I just needed a break. Last week or so I loaded up UT2004 and started moving around the map like always and was bored with it.

On another note in case Trin or Dark run into it you cannot start COD 4 multiplayer with X fire already running it will give you a direct x error. You need to start Xfire after the game.

Dark do this then try changing the resolution in the options menu of multi player with xfire running and tell me what happens. I also did the patch that came out so I am curious if you will have the same glitch.

Not sure if it relates, but there have been a couple times I've had xfire loaded, gone multiplayer only to have the mouse move like molasses. I haven't pinpointed it to an issue with xfire and COD4, or if it's something else causing it, but I'm definitely getting some kind of weird situation at times.

Holy Cow am I bad at COD4, I blame years and years of UT for this. My KtD ratio is painful horrible right now, but it's also been fun. My favorite moment so far has been; I hear from Trin "I'm right behind you" only get knifed from behind. I ask her what the hell, you weren't behind me....only to find out my selective woman hearing translated what she really said "watch out he's behind you" to what I wanted to hear. Even though I heard it wrong, if you saw him behind me...why didn't you shoot him?!!

Lol. I knew he was behind you cause he killed me and ran that way!

As for xfire and COD4 or even UT2K4 for that matter... I am currently using dual monitors and came across a few glitches. First, if your desktop resolution is different from your game resolution the windows on the second monitor shift when you enter the game. Second, I had an application that placed a taskbar on my second monitor but that somehow conflicted with the directx and I could not enter a multiplayer game without COD4 crashing. So, I no longer use that ap.

Typically I fire up xfire, look to see if any friends are playing, look to see if my favorite server is populated, then double click the xfire to launch COD4. Once I got a connection error but the other half a dozen times it's worked fine. I have also opened COD4, launched xfire, then joined a server from the COD4 listing. So, I know it will work both ways.
