The permit exempts the BP plant at Whiting, Ind., 3 miles southeast of Chicago, from a 1995 federal regulation limiting mercury discharges into the Great Lakes to 1.3 ounces per year.
1 3 ounces ?
Is that really enough to do any damage ?
I mean that is a big damn lake .

it's all about lobbying. perhaps BP or someone at BP is a big contributor to a politcal campaigne and that's what helped get BP that permit. mercury is highly toxic and can be absorbed by the skin. i think we should make nyte go for a swim in lake michigan.

I have been trying to research and see what is the safe levels on mercury.
It is manily released through coal buring and goes into the air.
This is what I found on drinking water.

It's not so much the water, but the fish, where it collects.
