New Servers

Postby pewterdragn » Sun Mar 04, 2007 11:38 am

Hi all,

Just wanted to give everyone a warning that I'm moving some servers around this month. The TAM/private servers will be moving hosts as well as our teamspeak and website hosts. Hopefully all you will have to do is update your teamspeak and UT favorites.

I'm not moving the Pub at this time.

This will hopefully happen sooner this month then later so please keep an eye out for changes.

Everyone seems to have good pings to Atlanta.

As an impartial observer, I'd have to second our noble Pig. Atlanta is an excellent choice, maybe the best ping improvement option ever.

I hereby nominate Burlington, VT as an option for new server placement!

I'll probably be doing some work on this during this coming weekend. The website and/or UT and/or TS server(s) may not be available while I'm working.

Just out of curiosity, where were the TAM/private servers located before the move?

The 24-hour laundromat 3 blocks from Dragn's studio apartment, where they served double-duty as soap vending machines.

All but the pub tdm are in TX and plan to stay in TX. Just new hardware/network.

Its way cheaper to host in TX compared to CHI or ATL... we pay way more for the pub tdm in CHI then we even come close to paying for all the other servers/website/teamspeak in TX.

Ah... OK, makes sense.

I'll generally hit a consistent 30%-40% Shock/LG on the TDM pub with no problems. When I flip over to the TAM server, I am LUCKY to hit 10%.

I always assumed that this was issue of Newnet -vs- standard netcode, but I can play on other standard netcode servers without seeing the dip I get on the TAM server.
I think the real reason is the geographical ping difference of TX -vs Chi servers (I am in MI).. I had never bothered to look at that before.

Hopefully, the new network in TX will help alleviate some of these problems.

I have a ventrillo server available if TS server is down.
I will post it and how to set it up here if need be.
