sorry if i made the generalization of not supporting our president and our troops that wasn't the intention. only a veteran can possibly know and understand what war is like. just didn't want us to forget those people who do their best to provide our freedoms.

LOL, just like politicians...I'll say one thing "no I'm not going to post", but I'm doing another! So there!
Politics are so screwed up. When I was 18, I remember taking a liberal/conservative test with my best friend in government class (basically kissing the teachers ass). I rated way more conservative then Reagan on the scale. My best friend in College was on the on the far liberal side of the scale (I'd assume). We had many debates on issues. He was always wrong, LOL, but I always enjoyed our debates and I always found it interested how he and I could look at the same issue and see two completely different sides. To this day, I learned more about the world with my time spent with him, then I ever did in college. I can admit it now, but because of the respect I held for him, I think it made me a much more tolerant person.
I can't honestly say if I'm a Dem or a Rep now. I believe government serves one purpose, to protect the people. I also believe and it definitely conflicts with my purpose statement depending how broad you take that meaning, but government should be involved in as little as possible. That's where current events have really changed my mind in recent years. The current Rep Party doesn't believe in small government anymore and have completely turned that philosophy around into becoming into this government that can be seen in every aspect of life and I think that is wrong.
This terror thing is completely out of control. Fear causes irrational decisions and we are LESS free today then we were pre 9/11 and that is retarded. How many terrorists are out there? 6 billion people, every different religion under the sun, different races, different everything...are terrorists a threat? Hell no. I'm not going to waste time looking it up (so take it at face value), but I'd bet that more people die from drunk driving each year then from terrorists. Terrorists got 3000 innocent people on that day. How many innocent people you think we've got in Affganistan and Iraq? Bet it 's close to those numbers.
My point is every innocent life we took, we just gained all their family as more people who want to see us blow up. You don't fight terrorists with bombs. What is fundimentally wrong with humans is this notion life doesn't mean anything if their beliefs aren't like yours. That's the number one problem. Fix that problem, then when 20 crazy bastards blow something up, then 6 billion people hunt their asses down.
I see this terror crap as nothing more then a fear tactic to get more control. Sad thing, it's working. Sadder thing, is that government never gives power back willingly. I wouldn't worry about your kids having to fight terrorist, I'd really worry about the day when the great grand kids have to fight to get the country back from being the 1984 type of all encompassing entity. Government needs to fear the people, not the other way around.
Government shouldn't tell me what I can and can't watch/listen/read.
Government shouldn't tell me anything I can or can't do with my body.
Government shouldn't monitor any phone call I make unless they have a warrant.
Government shouldn't be bought for the highest bidder.
Government should't put me on a "watch" list because of transfering a few thousand dollars between bank accounts.
Government shouldn't put me on a "watch" list for flying because of quotas.
If any of those are true, as a free country we have problems. We are in some serious shit because ALL of those are true!
For the record, next election I'm voting against every incumbent (doesn't matter what party). With the way that my freedoms have gone out the window in the past 6-10 years, there's not one person that deserves to be in office. I'm more scared of dying on a golf course from lightning then I am from being hit with a terrorist anything (and I don't golf). Now I just wish my government feared me...so I could have my freedoms back.

As much as I'd hate to say it, humans like being told what to do so that they don't have to make the decision themselves, and you can see this. There'll always be a crazy who'll garner support from a group of people, and they'll follow him to the ends of the earth because they're too fucking stupid to decide anything for themselves. Really, the only thing you can do to get rid of all this, is remove the human element from everything. "Human stupidity is infinite," as it has been said before.

Ok this news story from England is a prime example of why liberalism is a mental disorder:
Muslims face extra checks in new travel crackdown
By Ben Webster, Transport Correspondent.
THE Government is discussing with airport operators plans to introduce a screening system that allows security staff to focus on those passengers who pose the greatest risk.
The passenger-profiling technique involves selecting people who are behaving suspiciously, have an unusual travel pattern or, most controversially, have a certain ethnic or religious background.
The system would be much more sophisticated than simply picking out young men of Asian appearance. But it would cause outrage in the Muslim community because its members would be far more likely to be selected for extra checks.
Officials at the Department for Transport (DfT) have discussed the practicalities of introducing such a system with airport operators, including BAA. They believe that it would be more effective at identifying potential terrorists than the existing random searches.
This is absolutley the most common sense thing to do because although not all muslims are terroists all the terrorists right now seem to be muslim. Its rediculous that this is not the first plan to be used. We use random checks right now so we don't offend anyone. Valuing other people “feelings” above our own safety is crazy and is spawned by the political correctness that has cascaded down the liberal waterfall into our lives.

Call me old-fashioned, but I can't stand any of this "feelings" crap. In Poland, Jews are openly made fun, gay parades are squashed even by the police, and anyone who isn't Catholic is ridiculed. And yet, they've managed to get by. The false caring about others feelings is just going to build up more and more tension, until it reaches a point where it can no longer support itself. I understand where someone can say something inflammatory to the point of where people start to get their feelings "actually" hurt, however, this is just shit. Like Houdini said, you shouldn't place the safety of others over one group's "feelings".

I'm sorry but I can't believe I just read that.
Its not just muslims that should be offended by this practice, but you and me too. How outraged would you be if your ethnicity was suspected of terrorism? The IRA has bombed sites for years. No one used racial profiling then. Why? Because feelings don't matter here. In fact, feelings shouldn't even be a consideration.
The whole idea here is that "all men are created equal" - not just when its convenient or when your feelings of malice or fear tell you not to believe it. "As long as its them and not me" is a feeling too.
Its our duty not to panic, not to give into fear, and not to change our lives because of terrorists. Because thats when terrorists win. When the people panic and trade freedom for protection they grant power to the terrorists. The goal of terrorism is not destruction, its the leveraging of fear to create power to control.
Why swing the hammer when you can point to where the hammer should hit?
Making changes, taking away freedoms - these are the things that promote more terrorism. These are the things that show terrorists that their plans are working and they should apply even more pressure. It will never end when we do not follow our duty to protect our way of life by living our way of life.
The road to ending terrorism is to live strong and stand for what you believe. This means getting up every morning and going to work. This means not changing your life because of fear. This means having the courage to not be afraid. When the terrorists cannot leverage fear to hold power they have no more reason to attack. There is no other way.

I hear you I do but don;t get me wrong I dont dislike muslum looking people. Its just that there is a percentage of them that are sleeper cell terrorists and we need to spend more time looking their way instead of old ladies in wheelchairs because they were the 10th person through line. If I were here from the middle east I would be speaking in public of how ashamed I was that the bad people were corrupting there image and not getting angry at a country defending itself. I am all for peace but I aint giten blown to pieces.

Many years later, the IRA has finally given up on bombing, and has gone so far as to talks with the government. Apparently, something happened that discouraged them from continuing more terrorist activites. Was it a sudden change in "God's" strategy? I think not. The goal of terrorists, and it's even implied in their name, is to "terrorize", create mass panic. If that fails, there's no more point to continue going on because nobody cares. If, for example, terrorists suddenly stopped getting support, or simply nobody gave a shit about them, they would've failed in their original goal, and that is how it's related with this Administration.
By taking away our freedoms, insituting an arbitrary "alert" system, and making people fear for their lives, our government has done exactly that which bolsters and furthers the plans of terrorists. It's exactly what they want. Freedom is a right of ours, and not something that can be taken away by a fellow man, and it should never be.

Racial profiling would have worked like a charm on McVeigh!

Makes a pretty funny case of how silly liquid bombs are. The mental picture of 4 chemists squeezed in a lavatory needing hours to make something that can explode, that's an SNL skit.
I'm left to wonder which is going to happen first, is my laptop going to be banned from air travel because it could contain a bomb, or because I watched V for Vendetta on it, or because of the amount of porn on it (this is the one that should happen, I admit it). I also can't wait until all baggage banned all together, packing is such a bitch.
Every time, people over react to this stuff, the 8 terrorist out there laugh their asses off at us and the billion other people have to suffer. Retarded.

Well that was homegrown anti government angriness with McVeigh there was the 20 something guys that hijacked some planes and destroyed the coolest building in NYC though. I think this is healthy conversation exactly because of the reactions people here are posting. It is a good natured reaction to try and put yourself in there place how you would feel if you were being profiled this way. Could you imagine being a Japanese American in the 30’s and 40’s when we were at war with Japan? They had interment camps for them because some of them were spies not by any means all but some. That was necessary and took away a key Japanese advantage but by today’s standards we would have no will to do that. At some point even people that think I am an idiot for saying any of this will see my point. It is not just that they want to be left alone and we can all get along. Our way of life, our culture, the global economy are all not acceptable to the fanatical fascist Islamists. Watch a video of a woman in a burka getting beat with a stick in public for not walking 5 feet behind their husband and understand they will not compromise with the modern world. I will stop posting if it is making anyone mad I was just hoping to throw some things out there so we don’t have to wait until we are hit again before people realize it’s not going to go away until something is done about it.

War on Communism
War on Drugs
War on Terror
It is impossible to wage war on ideas. Doesn't matter how long you fight, it's not a war that can be won or lost.
Lets have a War on Drunk drivers! They kill people all the time.
Lets have a War on Fired Postal Workers! Shit, they crazy.
When driving to work every day offers 1000 times the risk vs terrorist activity, banning toothpaste on plane, just seems a bit extreme to me.
