Dodge-jump = gone

Postby BeerNut » Sat May 20, 2006 10:21 am

Steve polge interview below confirms that the dodge-jump will be gone in UT2007... However: double-jump, wall-dodge, and single-dodge are all in.

The only reason that I'm bummed about this, is because I really think they took it out to make the game more playable on the PS3... Epic has made several comments recently about dumbing down the movement to make the game more accessible to consolers. If that's the case... that blows. :(

I think you should be able to wall-jump more than once, that'd be kick-ass :D

It figures. I have played Elder Scrolls Oblivion a bit. Great game but the interface bites arss because it was built around consoles even though it's always been a pc game in the previous iterations.

Epic seems to be about compromises in this next version, not a good sign. I guess maybe that will help some noobs get around better. Can you imagine someone buying ut2004 right now that played, say just tactical fps? "hmmmm well I'll log into this server called fractionary and try this game out." After about 3 min of gameplay they probably log off and consider it a spam fest not ever realizing the game is the best fps ever made.

Sadly, I am leaning towards Dragn's opinion currently. I would like 2007, but in combination with some of the things that make UT, UT, being removed and my system probablynot up to date enough for the new game, looks like I will be sticking to 2004. And that was a seriously bad run-on sentence. I'm tired, shh.

I think you guys are missing the point and reason why they are removing it. If anyone here played UT hardcore like I did for a bit, you'd understand that you didnt need the dodge jump to get around and be successful. You've been hearing them say for months now that they are going to bring the old feel of UT back, and for one, the Dodge Jump was never in it. It was a new feature for the game when 2003 was released. As far as I'm concerned, 2k7 will rock without it. You'll still find that it's going to be hard to hit people no matter what the conditions. And you wont need a simpe dodge jump to escape from people.

OK... you lost me Soulja.

Per my original post, the double-jump is still IN for UT2007.

Well... I won't judge the impact of the dodge-jump removal until I see how it fits into the overall balance of the gameplay...
I know what you are saying about UT99, but even that game ran into some GLARING flaws once broadband proliferated most gamers' PC's.

It comments like this:
Mark Rein, of Epic Games wrote:So yeah, we're removing a little bit of the crazy mobility that got added with 2003 and 2004 and going back to the core of the original UT which we think will actually mesh better with controllers. We actually consider it an improvement because in 2004 you could all of these crazy things like wall jumps which really scream for immediate control and it's very tough to do with the controller without adding more buttons to it. We think that we're actually going to end up with something that plays a little smoother on the controller."

....That scare me

In other words: We are changing the gameplay to accomodate consolers playing with a controller, rather then a mouse and keyboard.

And rumors of cross-platform networking could make the above possibility a nightmare. :?

i may be wrong here(as has been proven over and over and frickin over again), but 2007 may surprise all of us. i'm not going to uninstall 2k4 until after the full version of 2k7 is installed either, but lets give 2k7 a chance. heck, we haven't even seen the demo yet.

if there is no jump dodge, i sense that we'll just have to use the wall jump to get around faster. and i think that will make us more agile in combat.

now if they insist on removing a jump and level the playing field they should remove the wall dodge instead of the dodge jump. if some newb were to encounter doubletap and he does that wall jump that he does, you know that flipping-thing-crap-of-fried-chicken-thing-with-mashed-potatos-and-gravy-BAWK! they would crap their pants and wonder how he got behind them so fast and shot them in the back. heck i'd leave too if he did that four five times in a row and my score was -4 cause i kept shoosting myself with flak cause i can't seem to understand that although flak is incredibly deadly to opponents...it also bounces off the wall....very very fast.

all that said, when the 2k7 demo comes out, i think there's gonna be a lot of rockin stuff in there...other than just eye candy. maybe it will surprise all of us.
