Acer v193w monitor - probs with sharpness

Postby Hoss » Mon Jan 05, 2009 6:05 pm

I know this isn't the best in the world but it got great reviews for gaming and movies.
No blur during gameplay at all but the images, text and movie play is not very sharp. Got a very decent 1gb video card that runs Crysis extremely well.

Have it at native 1400x900 res. Tried auto adjust etc. No improvement. The cheapo Dell monitors at work using onboard video are much sharper than mine!

Any suggestions?

Well I dont expect stellar results - just at least what a laptop would do for movies.
The cd had no drivers and the default driver for the monitor Vista installed was "generic pnp monitor." Dated 2006. This can't be right.

vista says i'm on a default PNP monitor from 6/21/2006. the monitor was purchased in june of 2007. it's a viewsonic widescreen VA1912wb.

if it got good reviews perhaps you just got a funky one.

Well I ran the adjustment software and it helped a little. Updated my vid card driver and it helped a lot. Just not as sharp as my crt - I expected more. About to buy a new vid card anyway, maybe that will help too.

If it takes that much just to get it to look normal is it worth it? Can you return it and get something else? I've always liked my Samsung monitors... both CRT and LCD.

Well I updated the vid card and tweaked it a little, fired up Crysis and it looks great. Could be better though. My vid card isn't the best in the world either though - just a 8600 GT. Gonna get a better one in the next few weeks. If no improvement I'll give this one to my wife and get another one. Pls gimme comments on my vid card post.

hoss, i've had an 8600 gt and now running an 8500 gt and i have no problems playing back video. even HD video spanning two monitors plays without a hitch, looks great. i would try plugging in another monitor if you have one...one that you know works well and see what happens. if it sucks, get a new gpu.
