This is the not most reliable source.
If it is so then get ready to get Vista.

Why? It's dx9 as well and vista slows performance down on many games.
From "XP vs. Vista - A Tale of Framerates"
As you can see, some games fared better than others with the new OS. For some titles, especially Company of Heroes and Need for Speed, we saw dramatic framerate discrepancies. What's more, both of these titles have recently released patches! Other titles showed a slight, but essentially negligible difference, such as BF2142, World of Warcraft, and Prey. Really, there was only one instance where Vista was able to pick up a few more frames than XP - World of Warcraft at greater than 90fps, where the human eye can't even see the difference. To see this overall trend against Vista is very interesting and makes us wonder as to the cause.
We wanted to look at image quality because we were interested in how the games actually "looked" as much as we were interested in how they "performed." This is something that hasn't been looked at much critically, and, it appears, for good reason. Between the implementation of the same graphics driver on the two OSes, we found that was no difference in the appearance of the game.

Non, you've been harping about what happend to your 'friend' for 3 months now with no real facts to support your claim. I've got 40G of CD rips (yes RIAA, I can produce a CD for every single track, so go fuck your collective self) and haven't seen a hint of what you are talking about.
One thought comes to mind though? Did your 'friend' turn on BitLocker drive encryption? If he DID, and then forgot his private key, I can see how he lost access to everything... BECAUSE THATS WHAT DRIVE ENCRYPTION IS FOR.

Microsoft admits Vista failure

WITH TWO OVERLAPPING events, Microsoft admitted what we have been saying all along, Vista, aka Windows MeII, is a joke that no one wants. It did two unprecedented things this week that frankly stunned us.
Dell announced that it would be offering XP again on home PCs. The second that Vista came out, Microsoft makes it very hard for you to sell anything other than MeII. It can't do this on the business side because it would be laughed out the door, but for the walking sheep class, well, you take what you are shovelled.
The other equally monumental MeII failure? Gates in China launching a $3 version of bundled MeII. Why is this not altruism? Well, it goes back to piracy and how it helped enforce the MS monopoly. If you can easily pirate Windows, Linux has no price advantage, they both cost zero.

Even though the head of one of the divisions of microsoft himself said vista was a big debacle, we will always have those that ....

Non is so funny
This time next year he will be running Vista.
I wonder if he kicked up such a big fuss when XP came out ?
All OSs take time to mature and Vista is not going away .
It will be better than XP with time.

Yup... we will all be there eventually but most people I know that have been doing this for a while wait till at least sp1 or 2 for a new os before taking it in. Then there's pork and law.....
You still didn't answer my question about your buddy. Own up..he encrypted his drive, then blew away his os and expected to be able to read it...right?
