I think the gts model is a little shorter. I haven't decided yet.
System build will probably happen in 3 months.
I am waiting to see what AMD and ATI comes up with.

680i is out and it is now the best chipset for core 2.

From anandtech:

The NVIDIA 680i is the chipset we would choose for our own purchase right now. It is the best chipset for the Core 2 platform that we have tested.

My last attempt to get pork to abort mission on his antec 900 case. Seriously dude this is the 4th review I have read that basically says it's very bad, esp. if you need room.

Most Seasonics, depending on which vendor they were made at, are thumbs up. Certain lines in every psu companies lineup are farmed out to less desirable makers but Seasonic in general is a big thumbs up.

I probably will not go to nvidia video cards aftyer reading this.

That said, there are a few things we would like to point out. The first is that Nvidia's cards had better gains from a faster CPU and platform. Part of this can be directly attributed to the driver; Nvidia's driver is known to utilize more of the CPU, so the more the CPU can deliver, the better the performance.

Along the same vein, ATI had fewer gains, but this is praise for Terry Makedon and the Catalyst driver team. It shows that an ATI card will not be as affected by slower components over different systems. This is true to a point anyway; once the system becomes the bottleneck, it doesn't matter what you put in the card, as not much will happen.

I guess I will have to look for another case.

I'm excited to see what ATI comes up with as I'm not a fanboy of hardware, I just go with what works. But on the point you just made, the system you are building shouldn't be an issue with cpu because you are building one with a fast cpu. The 8800gtx is 5x faster than the 7900gtx, sorry rom.

For what it's worth, I have a 7800gtx and when I changed from an overclocked amd 3500+ (2.5ghz) to this core duo 1.8 o/c go 2.5, I had very little improvement in my 3dmark score proving that most of the 3d work is at the cards level provided you aren't bottlenecked at the cpu.

ATI's R600 coming the end of next month suppose to upstage the
G80 by quite a bit and not be a longer card.
It is going to be very interesting by next April.

Saw that almost a month ago Pork. Yes it should be interesting but I seriously doubt that it will be upstaging it by a long shot. It will also be long from what I hear as it has a cooler that is longer than the pcb which will put it around the same size as the 8800. Time will tell. I won't be touching any of these for a while anyway as they are so pricey and my 7800 runs everything fine for the moment. I may look around April or so next year as they introduce the 8900 and the r700 and the prices fall on these.

And i most admit i agree whit non.At the moment i run every games like a charms whit my 7900gtx,so i dont see the need to change the card for the moment. And theres a thing we should not forget. At the moment theres no game who support dual core,so when new games like crissis or 2k7 gonna get out they gonna support our dual core so maybe card like 7800gtx and higher gonna be fine whit another cpu who push the power in the video card,at least i hope so
