Kites!

Postby Trinity » Sat May 21, 2005 8:03 am

I pulled them all out the bags this morning so I could look them over before heading out the kite festival later today. The only one not pictured is a little ship (actually looks like a ship except for the bright colors!) that I have but here are the rest of 'em:

Hey, that's pretty cool! By the way, how do they judge this whole festival, or is it just for showing off?

Well here is a shot of the one I think was the best:

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was kind of disappointed with the whole thing. Each kite flyer had their own song that they flew their kite to. Some songs were performed to by pairs and triplets. It was neat and I'd love to learn how they do those moves, but I just wasn't awed.

The best part for me was after one of the routines, in which three kites were flown, watching the three grown men who flew them group hug each other. I never knew kite flying could be such a bonding experince, learn something new every day.

I went into it with no expections, so I didn't walk away as disappointed as Trin did. It was a beautiful day, people watching is always fun, and the kites were about as exciting as kites get for me.

It slipped my mind to get their travel dates, sorry you'll just have to check your local listings to see if they visit your town in the festival tour.
