Law One to be upgraded... Choice #2 Video Cards

Starting with the following configuration:

Motherboard - ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe WiFi
CPU - AMD Athalon 64 X2 4200+ 65W AM2
RAM - OCZ Gold 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC6400
PSU - Enermax Whisper II 535W

Let's start talking video. The SLI suggests I go with Nvidia, but I'm only getting one card right now, and by the time Vista's out, there will be new models anyways... so ATI isn't necessarily out of the picture.

What's your opinions on a happy in-between card?

Oh, and the requirements are simple... must have at minimum 2 VGA out, though I'd prefer 2 DVI and an SVHS

I think that a 7900gt will be a wise choice,for your comp man.It have a bit more power than a 7800gtx ,and if you look under that theres a 7600gt but this card is a bit more powerfull than a 6800gt,so if you built your comp for a while go for the 7900gt that will be a greath choice and when time have come you will able to buy another one to get in sli

Any thoughts on brands.. When I buy an ATI based card I always go built by ATI. NVIDIA is a foreign language to me.

One of the nicest cards I've seen is the 7600 GT, and I do believe you can SLI it. Granted it has a 128 bit memory interface, for 150-ish dollars, it seems like it's worth it. The 7800 isn't a bad choice either, but (if I'm not mistaken) many people have been complaining about getting a bad card whenever they received it.

Ok I decided to go with this card from newegg

It's got good reviews, and seems decent enough to get me started. I expect video card will be my first upgrade once Vista / Dx 10 is out anyways.

Nvidia makes a decent midrange card.
It will do the job and I can't see spending any big bucks on a card now until the Directx 10 cards come out.

That card will do Law if your going to get a dx10 card later. I just can't recommend shelling out tons of dollars right now on a card that will not run the next gen games in directx10 that come out early next year.

For just a bit more the x1800xt would have been nice and you can bios flash those to get them to an xt pe model which is just under the performance of the x1900xt

Is the gtx vs higher or lower than the gt version? I'm not that familiar with the gts. I'm assuming a few lest texture pipelines and shaders than gt?

You never told me your budget so I couldn't recommend but that one will be fine for a bit. Don't expect it to be a big upgrade from your current one though. Now that I think of it... what is your current one?
