Well, my wife cheated on me...

...Or at least that's how I feel :(

After almost a decade of addictively playing the UT series, I read this today:

CiffyB at the DICE gaming summit:
“I think people would rather make a game that sells 4.5 million copies than a million and “Gears” is at 4.5 million right now on the 360. I think the PC is just in disarray… what’s driving the PC right now is ‘Sims’-type games and ‘WoW‘ and a lot of stuff that’s in a web-based interface. You just click on it and play it. That’s the direction PC is evolving into So for me, the PC is kind of the secondary part of what we’re doing. It’s important for us, but right now making AAA games on consoles is where we’re at.”

I guess after the condition that UT3 was released in, it shouldn't be much of a surprise; but it sucks to see the hammer finally come down from Epic.

I'm just a little irritated that Epic releases a game that is only about 90% finished, and then blames us (PC gamers) that it didn't sell well. Self-fulfilling prophecy perhaps?

I agree a 100% whit you Beer.

I dont like ut3 and they have kill the reel way 2k4 should be play when they bring tam on.I'm sure you'll agree whit me on that one Beer, you are a tdm player like me and in tam we have lost all they aspect that bring this game so interesting.Run for weapon, power up control and the control of the map.Now peoples are just waithing around the corner whit a gun full of goo to kill you whit a cheap shot, playing 2k4 wasnt that type game to me.

So i should try my self to start playing wow or gw and stop playing a game who is not the reel 2k4 i have loves from the begening.

The only reason why i play 1 or 2 match a weeks is to see my old buddy not for the game anymore

Law...you're not right.

Cliffy B...go F%ck yourself and Mark Rein while you're at. Bastids.

My opinion on FPS on the console...they suck like Cliffy B.

Well I would have agreed with you guys over the summer about what cliffy said but not at the moment. I think I have felt this coming on for awhile now which sucks seeing how much money I put into my computer for the promise of the games like UT3. Last week I sold my 32" LCD TV to a friend and bought a 42" one mainly to play my Xbox on. At the moment there is the kind of buzz and enthusiasm in Xbox live FPS's like there was on the PC when I first got into the UT series 5 or six years ago now. The worst part about the whole thing is I spent $3,000 more for the computer then the Xbox and somehow the graphics are about the same when playing in 1080P.

I think the graphics are sweet....I can't deal with aiming with the controller....
I know I can buy a mouse and keyboard for the ps3 but I have one already on my computer 8)

One thing I will say.... there sure are cheaper and look pretty sweet on the lcd.

I don't even blame Epic for shifting their focus to consoles... It is a business, and given the ever-increasing gap in console -vs- PC sales figures, I would probably do the same thing in their position.

My problem is how they went about it:
Concentrating on consoles does not mean that you have to squat down and shit out the PC version of your game (incidentally, the very players who put you on the map). I would have been 100X happier if they had delayed releasing it for 6 months after the PS3 game; so long as it was an enjoyable, polished, finished product when it goes gold.
Being that on average there are about 650 people playing UT3 online ON THE PLANET EARTH, I don't see how it is ever going to recover to even 2k4 online numbers.

And let's not forget Mark Rein's recent "PC games are our bread and butter" speech. If it's possible, that statement looks even more rediculous now.

Ah well, maybe after 3 patches and a bonus pack UT3 will be worth playing... That is IF anyone sticks around that long to play it. :(

Fuck it. Someone put up a UT2k3 server, and lets play some UT

I for one fail to understand the economics of consoles. As a game manufacture, first you have to kiss the ass of the console maker to use their product conforming to the way they do things and then to top it off paying them to make your damn game run on the console (bye profits). Second, picking the damn console is a gamble, at least one will fail, history has proven that and it's almost unpredictable which one will. The only prevention against this is then kiss the ass of multiple consoles and make your product for each. That's even more money out of pocket.

I must be completely missing something because I don't see how the PC can't drive the most important sales. Don't have to kiss any ass to develop it and the hardware doesn't carry the risk of the console not catching on. Then add to the equation that every modern house has a PC for the internet, that's a deal maker. Having a console act as a media server is kind of cool, but there's NEVER going to be a time when only a console is in a house. In the near future, EVERY form of entertainment in the house is coming to the house via an internet connection. Consoles are kind of PC's, but until they add many more options to do stuff, PC's will always be more prevalent.

-Atari, Dead
-Sega, Dead
-Nintendo was on the canvas with a 9 count, they have got up but, only time will tell
-Sony, last I knew the Wii was kicking the sh*t out of them and the only thing driving sales is the Blu-Ray built in
-M$, has yet to even turn a profit

I'd love to know why those fools think consoles are the answer. I have no doubt that there's revenue, but it's a market that's going to die at some point. Unless the console's figure out how to surf, check email, write a book report, watch porn...they have zero future. Epic's going to get theirs (already have) by bending over them.

So I guess you're upping it from the 23/7? 1hr was usually reserved for ut and wiping yourself off occasionally before. What now no cleanup?

I agree Ace... PC's (at least for a long time) will be more prevalent in the standard household. The part where it gets dicey is what % of those PC's can actually play the latest "cutting edge" games. Let's face it, keeping a PC on hand that is constantly up to date is an expensive hobby; yet I'm sure there are a lot of people with e-machines out there that can run WoW, the Sims, and even CS with no problems (coincidentally the most popular?).

I think a big part of a console's success is that you are guaranteed a playable game, with no worries of system requirements or frame rates, at a relatively low price compared to buying a gaming PC (or keeping one upgraded). Shoot... I consider myself an avid PC gamer, and UT3 runs like shit on my rig.

I think that the biggest lesson that PC developers should take away from this is, stop trying to develop games that take a NASA computer to play properly. Based on what PC games are successful right now, it seems pretty apparent to me that people are much more concerned whether they can actually play the game on their PC, than whether or not the pretty grass blows realistically in the wind.

Beer that is something that has me scratching my head. On the Xbox in 1080p you are playing in 1920 x 1200 resolution the same as the native resolution of my 24" LCD for my computer. The weird thing is when I am on the computer I am constantly second guessing myself on what resolution and ping will give me better play and I think I can tell the difference between them. So I don’t get why on my Xbox playing at 1920 x 1200 with 20 people in the server and 8 of them are playing from England how the game play is still smooth as hell. If I was on a server with high pingers from England or on their server on the computer it would be unplayable. It’s just really weird considering the price comparison and I think that might be the main strength of the console.
