ripping cds?

Postby FATTYLLAMA » Sun Dec 24, 2006 11:02 pm

its weird because i usually use WMP11 to rip my cds, and with my old computer and old drive, it used to rip a 3 minute song in less than 10 seconds but then slowed down considerably, to almost a minute for a 3 minute song, for no reason a few months ago. with my new computer and new drive (samsung dvd-ram with lightscribe) it takes almost a minute to get a 3 minute song.

anyone help me out?

Fatty,

The first thing I would check on both systems is if the CD player has switched to PIO mode. This happens sometimes, usually after attempting to play a dirty CD (not content, but covered in filth)

Right Click "My Computer" and select Manage
From the left tree pick "Device Manager"
Find your IDE ATA/ATAPA controllers in the right tree
Right Click Primary IDE and select "Properties"
Click on "Advanced Settings" tab
Make sure the transfer mode reads "DMA if available" for both devices
Repeat for Secondary IDE

well, both are UDMA mode 2, i used to think the pio mode thing was the cause, but it isnt. its weird because with this new drive i think its just slow at ripping. now, the one that used to be fast, i really dont know.
