I hate the internet

I'm setting up a windows 2000 server machine to become our new network firewall....
Installed Windows 2000 Server
Installed Service Pack 4
Connected to Windows Update
and before I could download the post-SP4 updates, the machine was comprimised

Your first problem was when you connected a Windows machine to the internet. If you have a spare router, try and put that between the machine and the outside world until you get everything updated.

Nonsense. Windows 2000 can be locked down sufficiently well...
I just put the cart ahead of the horse because I wanted to get ISA 2004 setup as quickly as possible...
There are lots of arguments for using non Microsoft software. Not a single one of them pays my salary

lol, yea i guess i did sound a bit defensive... not intented
Looks like things are workin so far. knock on wood. VPN much easer for clients to setup than sonicwall's outdated crap...
Web/FTP/Email all going through ISA now...
Only thing left are the individuals that insist on pc-anywhere...
Then, of course... ghost image of system drive, and a full backup
