French Army exercise goes wrong when live ammo is used

A military shooting demo went wrong on Sunday, leaving 16 people wounded when live ammo was used instead of blanks.

Of the 16, 15 were civilians, including a 3 year old child. The child and three others are seriously injured and are being hospitalized in nearby Toulouse.

A Defense Ministry official said the incident occurred during a demonstration of hostage-freeing techniques at the Laperrine military barracks. Investigators will look into why real bullets were used.

The soldiers who fired are being detained.
