So anyways, I have a volume control on my mic headset half-way down the cord. After months of tugging and whatnot, one of the wires broke off the tiny chip inside. I'm like HOLY SHIT. And I have no soldering wire... With the plastic coating included, it's not more than 1mm thick or so. I carefully shaved off some of the tube to expose the wire. Then I scraped off the black plastic on the chip to expose the metal link. Using my Cold-Heat gun, I directly soldered the wire to the link along with some of the tubing and black plastic to seal the deal. Obviously by doing this directly without solder wire should have fried the chip. But it didnt. I put the case back on and I was good to go. NOW THAT'S PRO!
