The True Value Of Friendship?

With my 75 mile (each way) daily commute, I get a lot of time to think about stuff. Today, on the way home I started thinking about friendship.
A Friend In Need Is A Friend Indeed.
Truer words were never spoken. But what exactly does it mean.
Well the first part... "A friend in need" that's pretty straight forward. Someone who's in a bind. A dude who's down on his luck. Someone who has unfulfilled requirements.
Indeed. well that's an afirmaiton. It's a shortening of the two words "in deed", when used in the conext of "He was a good man, in his deeds as well as his words" ... so to say "the things he did made him a good man."
So putting it all together...
A Friend In Need Is A Friend Indeed.
... Or ...
A friend who's in a bind is a friend who will do things.
It says a lot about human nature, I think.
