I caved in and bought a new computer

Postby Cloud » Thu Mar 04, 2010 12:27 am

It's nothing fancy. It's a Dell Inspiron with a Core 2 Duo, 8 gigs ram, 1tb of Hard Drive with windows 7. It was cheap, only 599.99 at best buy. So I just put it on my best buy credit card. hooray.

I just need a video card I guess.

don't let people give you shit, you'll love it. you don't need the most expensive video card to play UT.

this card will play UT just fine and close to the highest settings. if you want to play any newer games you'll prolly have to upgrade.

Wow
Congrats Cloudy!!
That will work fine for you.
I just checked on Best Buys website and it does have a pciex slot for another video card.
I am not a nvidia fan seeing of all the problems that they have had so here is my suggestion on a video card.

Get the one you feel is best though.
Also it doesn't say what type of power supply is in there so don't go getting a real powerful card as it may not have the right connections or be strong enough to support it. The one Sid and I suggested should be fine.
Go ahead and get antivirus software on there fast.

Actually to play UT the onboard will probably do with the amount of Ram you have for the time being until you get a better video card. Will be better than what you were playing on. Know what I'm Saying!!!!!

Hint hint Cloudy.
It will last longer if you don't throw it or kick it.

Yep by today's standards Cloudy, UT graphics are old and simple. And in case you didn't know, I played UT with you and the gang for the first 5 months I was back playing just using the onboard graphics chip, and it worked fine.

Getting a video card will take some of the load off of your cpu, but you don't need it to play UT.

My 2 cents :D

Cloudy
Make life easier on your self and get an external hard drive enclosure be sure to get a ide (pata) one instead of a SATA one . Take you old hard drive out of your old computer put it in the enclosure hook it up to a USB port on the new one and transfer all your old UT2004 program over to the new drive . I should be a folder called ut2004 remane it xut2004 and reinstall UT after it is installed rename the new UT2004 to something like zut2004 then rename the xt2004 back to ut2004 and this will have all your old settings
and server files.
This will save you from having to redownload all the maps and bous packs utcomp etc.
