Game Review - The Bard's Tale

Postby law.of.averages » Thu Dec 17, 2009 12:14 pm

The Bard's Tale. A nod and a tip of the hat to the ancient Apple ][+ game of the same name. A solo only RPG/Adventure game with isometric 3d view.

I was a bit bored last night after mythbusters, so I jumped on Steam to see what was new and looked fun. The cheap bastard in me skipped over Borderlands ($49.95) and latched onto The Bard's Tale ($8.99) I remember playing the old Apple ][+ versions in my younger days and figured it was cheap enough that I'd give it a try.

It took a me a slight bit of work to get it to run on Windows 7. (For more precise directions, consult the steam forums)

1. Rename or delete the 41900_install.vdf file.
2. Right click "The Bards Tale.exe" and turn off Windows 98 Compatability mode.
3. Turn off Vertical Sync for the game (check your video card manual)
4. (If on Windows 7) Right click "The Bards Tale.exe" and set Compatability mode for Windows Vista

Once that pain was out of the way... I couldn't have been happier. 5 minutes into the game I wasl laughing my head off, and knew my 8.99 was well spent.

So give it at try already.
