Whatever is the best performer for my games at the time.
Because I really don't have anything interesting to say for the most part...

I'm with doc on that. I can tell you I have found several threads with the same BSoD problems I had with my bfg 6800gt o/c. I could find one set of legacy drivers that I didn't get automatic shutdowns and BSoD's on so much but it was a pain in the arss.

ATI is typically pretty solid but not much linux support and for the most part I gave up on them about 2 yrs ago. I would have been glad to try an x850 xt instead of my 6800gt but you couldn't find one for literally 8 months after they were announced available.

I had a 7800gtx the week they announced it from Nvidia and the new competitor from ATI is the x1800xt. Go try to find one right now. Nothing, and they were introduced several weeks ago.

So if ATI could get their supplier/manufacturing in line with their marketing it would definately be better for their image. Their just trying to not let Nvidia rule the world right now by announcing vaporware and keeping everyone in waiting which = frustration.

Having said all that, their is a new driver set for the x1800 series that improved performance almost 35% and it's looking damn sweet compared to my 7800gtx so if I could find one I would be happy to get it because competition is good and I'm not a fanboy of a piece of hardware that I have no stock in and no ties to. I saw let the best manufacurer win.

Well, I've been using nVidia equipment for a while and I certainly haven't been disappointed. Sure, ATI has some nice stuff, but from what I've seen, for the time being, nVidia has cheaper stuff that's just as good as their ATI counterpart. Plus, spending 1000+ dollars on a new computer just isn't an option for me. nVidia all the way :D

Nuge can't play ut right now because he has an nvidia 7800gt and it crashes to desktop. Go nvidia!!! My 6800gt was a piece of crap imo too so it can go either way. I have had a rock solid 9800pro and I have heard of other ati cards crapping out. I go with nvidia right now because ATI has a major manufactoring/supply issue.

Well, I just had my first experience with Nvidia, and their tech support. The 2nd monitor on my workstation went dark, and refuses to come back on.

I asked nvidia if there was a diagnostic tool to tell if the card was bad.

I got back 'we don't support hardware, contact the card maker'

Makes me glad that in 45 mintues it will be someone else's problem.

I have been a long-time fan of ATi cards, and I will tell you why. They are Canadian based company, and I am canadian, so plus one point there.

Secondly, and I don't think anyone can argue this point... ATi's 2D image quality is far superior to any other manufacturer on the market.

As far as 3D goes, I think that ATi provides a very good price/performance product. I have worked in the computer industry a long time, and you know what?

A few years ago, in the days of the Radeon 8500 and the GeForce 3 Ti500, there was no doubt that Nvidia was king. And when the 7800 series came out, they had immediate availability... Something never done before.

Yes, the in beginning X1800 cards were hard to come by, but it was because of intellectual property rights infringement and lawsuits... Not because the product was not ready.

Trying to find a 7800GTX 512MB version or a 7900 series card is now just as (if not more) difficult that finding an X1800 or X1900 series card. All X1K high end cards come with 512MB stock, so that's a huge plus... And they provide the exact same 3D performance for half the cost of NVIDIA cards...

I work in a retail computer store, and I picked up my X1800XT512MB for $600CAD, and the NVIDIA 7800GTX512MB was $1200CAD.

For me the purchase was a no brainer. I'm not saying anything bad about Nvidia, their cards are good, just a little too expensive. Also, remember I am talking highest-end video cards... The 7800GT is probably the best price/performance mid-range card...
Everyone may piss in the pool but you have to be extra mean to do it from the high diving board.

I don't care, I have gone with either side. Whoever has the fastest for the $. ATI is currently back kicking nvidia after being down for several years with their x1900xtx. The 7900gtx gets it in a couple apps but overall the ati card is in the lead.

I can tell you that the image quality of ati is hands down the best.

Well with my recent switch to linux as my desktop environment, I am currently unsure. Under Windows I love ATI, but like Dragn already stated, their Linux support is almost non-existant. I am having trouble configuring my drivers properly so I can gain full functionality from my card. I do not know how much easier it is with nVidia, but I have noticed much more discussion and general support than for ATI products.
