I think my EVGA 8800 GTS has died. Currently on it's predecesor, an EVGA 7600 GS ...

Which should be good enough to shop online for a new video card.

But what to buy.

Ideally I'd like to find one that's x% faster than the 8800, but also consumes less or equal power.

I found this site: and I'm comparing, but there's so much to chose from:

Thoughts?

The 9800gt is slower than your 8800gts if it was a 512 meg,if you have the 640 or 320 than will be more powerfull.

But if you want a card who will give you a lot more performance i will sugest you a gtx260.

I have change my 8800gts 512 superclock for this gtx260 and i must say i was impress about the performance.Take almost the same power to run it,but it give near 40% more performance depend on the game you play

Hope it helps Rom

Well In the end I went for a GTS 250.

comparing it to my old one (which is the EVGA 8800 KO (crysis) version)

It comes very close to power requirements, and looks to be a marginally better at speed. Hopefully it has a higher efficiency rating than the other, and more power will be used to 'do stuff' instead of 'heat stuff'.

With peak power drain at 43w more (190w vs 147w) than my old card, (40w over the one I chose) and a mere $134.00 more in price. ... not including the cost of the new PSU required to run it. I call this one 'out of my reach'

Ok, so I went with the 250 GS. $109 down the toilet... but monitor #2 is back online. I can now drag y'all off to the side and go back to work :-)

Came with a free game... "Call of Duty: world at war" ... so I got something to test it with. More later
