Asus P5B MB won't recognize sata HD
As it boots it indicates no HD found. I go into setup and it sees the HD make AND size. Wuz up? Windows won't install cuz it sees no HD either. Dang it!
Re: Asus P5B MB won't recognize sata HD
XP or Vista? If it is XP you will most likely need to get the SATA drivers and put it on a floppy disk and then load those when it asks for third party software in the beginning. You will need to press F6.

Installing Vista. But the bios as it boots indicated no HD found. So this is before I even get into setup. I took the SATA jumper out limiting it to 1.5 gb and rebooted. Now nothing in bios recognizes it and it doesnt spin at all. Bad new HD? I switched it from SATA 1 on the mb to another port, SATA 2 still no dice. So not the mb.

Seriously, flash it. It's easy with the p5b.

XP drivers work just fine. I've got the same mobo and never installed any third party drivers. i do recall there being an issue with vista and sata hard drives or something of the like, law would be the one to consult about that.

Re: Asus P5B MB won't recognize sata HD
Do you have to create an array using CTRL-H (or whatever the combo is) first? Not the first BIOS screen, but the DOS looking thing that comes up second. Also make sure the serial isn't disabled in the BIOS.
These are issues I've hit with XP and 2003 (also the thing about F6 for third party drivers which someone mentioned). I know nothing about Vista.

K I rebooted and as it post's it indicates "no drive found" but once into setup - the bios DOES see the sata drive AND the sata dvd drive. Even shows size and sectors etc. But after save/exit it stops and says "no drive found."
In bios there are these options:
IDE config - gives me sata config: Disable, Compatable or Enhanced - what should that be on?
Then a "Configure SATA" option. IDE or AHCI ?

Thanks for all the input y'all. Man I tried everything. Finally broke down and got to a level 3 tech at Asus. He was a little baffled too. He came up with the same conclusion as Law - defective sata controllers. RMA to Newegg! Crossing my fingers they don't give me any crap. Especially since during the repack I slightly bent a couple cpu pins trying to get the cap back on doh!
Lesson - don't drink a case of beer trying to diagnose a mb - then try to repack it LOL.

I think my next motherboard is going to be an Intel.

When NewEgg was young and inexperienced their support/return/exchange process was a nightmare. I recall telling the 'nice gentleman' on the phone ...rather loudly... 'if that's the way you're going to run your business, I'll take mine elsewhere"
Funny what happens when there *is* decent competition. Over the years, their policies (and their attitudes) have softend quite a bit. They realize the value in keeping the customer happy. You'll do fine Hoss.

Once again Law you are correct. They received my mb yesterday and mailed me a new one the same day. UPS tracking indicates arrival tomorrow. Yee haw! lol
Now I just cross my fingers this one works...

Try to stay sober on this install so you don't screw this one up also.

Not gonna believe this bs! It was the power supply! 2 strands had intermittent to no juice! Put a thermaltake in it and everything fired right up. Thanks for the input Law and the phone support Sid.
