Your system sucks!

Trin and I upgraded to almost the exact same system. She is happy to finally see the water that she's been stepping in for years on Rankin, I'm on the other side of the spectrum. I love the system, it's nice to be the first in the maps instead of missing the first round, I'm seriously the worst person in the clan now....I think I could hit more accurately if I closed my eyes.

I don't know if it's just a matter of getting accustom to all the changes, but I can't hit a damn thing anymore. I went out and got Dell's 2407 24" flat panel, so in addition to a new core, I also am making the switch from a CRT to flat panel. I don't know what I'm fighting, or if it's a combination of everything, but I'm embarrassingly horrible right now. Anybody running that monitor or a widescreen one? Same trouble making the transition?

I'm actually contemplating setting up my old system to be my UT machine because there's no point in playing on the new one when I can't do jack crap.

Holy shit you 2. Good lord I thought I would never see the day. 8)

You both have systems that trump mine now

Ace... give it some time man, that's a lot of changes. I don't know if you notice but with all my hardward upgrades sometimes I come in just sucking it up for a couple weeks. crt to lcd was a little hard too. Do you know the max response time for your monitor? Are you getting a lot of ghosting?

Also are you on vista now? Not sure if that flakes your game out as I don't have it.

Check your lcd refresh rate too. I noticed a significant improvement setting my first lcd from 60 mhz to 75 mhz. Each one varies so not sure what yours is capable of.

Just to see if it's the monitor switch to your old crt and play and see how it goes. Going to widescreen is a huge change and I'm betting it's just how big everything is now ace because your old crt was not near as big. Look at it this way, after a couple weeks and your eyes adjust, and I think that's where most of it is, you will be able to see lizards tail from across grendle and put an lg hole in it. 8)

Grats you 2, great systems, very impressive.

Oh... now that I think of it... seems like trinity was playing really well last night? Trinity has it been hard for you to transition? Seems like you were doing good. :?:

Flat Panels suck for me on games like UT where yu have to move fast
I seem to get blurry screens when I move fast.

Ha I love it I knew there was a reason I was pwning u last night! If I were you I would just use the new system with the old monitor I don’t think you are going to like the response time with that thing. (Even though I think it has as low as 6ms) For everything else that is a hot monitor though man I am jealous.

The first time I loaded up UT I couldn't believe how smooth it was. I then "fixed" up my ini with my usual settings and it played like crap and crashed! So... after removing all my demorec stuff it seems to be doing much better again (no crashes last night). Now I'm down to trying to pin down the correct mouse sensitivity. I've been varying between .5 and .75. Last night I started out at .75 and couldn't hit anything so I dropped back down to .5 and did much better. I did not upgrade my monitor (Samsung 19" LCD that I've had since Nov 2005) but the better machine is a bit of getting used to. I wonder how going back to my Samsung 17" CRT would be. I might have to give it a try just for giggles.

No ghosting at all with a good lcd. Been playing on 2 different ones for sometime now. You just need the right one pork.

I didn't either, but the HDV I want to mess around with couldn't even play on my old system, so here I am in 2007.

The response time is listed at 6ms, not sure if that's a max not. I wouldn't describe what I'm getting as ghosting, I'll go in to that in more detail after I answer your quesitons. No Vista, I'm not crazy. I'm guessing I'm on 60mhz right now because I've switched back to 1920x1200 res yesterday hoping it would help me out. I was running at a lower res previously (thinking it would help), but I probably was only at 60mhz then as well. I'll try that test next.

It's really hard to describe exactly what is going on because it seems like an easy fix, mouse sensitivity. It feels like everything is in slow motion, the "quickshot" or reflex shot is completely gone from my game now with this setup. It's especially bad when I'm fighting up close, where I'm so use to turning quickly and drilling somebody. I'm not sure if that's the screen area f*cking with me or what is going on there. If I move my mouse sensitivity higher, then I'll lose all ability to hit the "crossing" the crosshairs type long distance shot because my aim won't be able to stay still. The middle ground between both types of shots I had before is gone with the new system and yet neither shot is easy for me. If it were only mouse sensitivity, I'd expect it be much better at the "crossing" type shots, but I'm not.

As a last ditch attempt to fix what is wrong, I thought I'd mess with the FOV settings. I've always ran at 100 for as long as I can remember. I thought the size of the monitor were screwing with me, so I lowered it and raised it. I'm surprised how much that effects the game play and not just the view, 120 makes it feel like you don't move. 80, gave different results, but also not good. Figured by going to one extreme or the other it would give me a possible solution, it didn't.

Yeah, probably will try switching back to the old tonight and see how it goes.

Hopefully most of it is falling in the visual category of just getting your eyes used to that big f'ing display you have there. Give it a couple weeks and I bet things start feeling better again.

lol Yes yes that was a good find. That was almost 2 1/2 yrs ago and that was an 8ms response time. Also I don't think I knew about setting the refresh rate up to 75 so that probably affected it pretty bad. The sammy I got 9 mo ago or so is fabulous and made me drop my old clinging to crts. :D
