OPC called me yesterday and said that the X-Fi card has compatibility issues with my motherboard. Apparently, the sound cuts in and out, or one needs crank the sound all the way up at times. Creative has been unhelpful, asserting that the motherboard manufacturers should be responsible for a fix. Apparently, the cards work great on older mobos.

I found a few things for you and you should maybe talk with your builder and see what he will do because for me I think I would get a new mobo before I went with the dreaded onboard audio. Sure it may sound ok but I have been amazed with the new x fi board I cant believe how much better it is then the audigy 2 ZS.

I'm using a X-Fi card. Under Integrated Peripherals, disable HD Audio. Reboot and install the Creative drivers. (the Integrated Peripherals are in the BIOS)
Also and maybe most important it looks like the X-FI problem was taken care of in BIOS revision p23 and now p25 is out so what BIOS is on the MOBO they are selling u? You should find out and maybe see if they will flash to a recent BIOS before installing the Windows. In fact I would call them up let them know that you are giving them a substantial amount of money and flash my freaking BIOS to something that does not have bugs in it or I am coming down there and doing it myself!!!!!
If you take a look at EVGA forum you will see the kind of serious issues some people are having. I was planning on getting this mobo for awhile so I read the EVGA forum daily and waited to see if enough fixes were done. I never felt I was safe getting it because if something went wrong I lack the skills to troubleshoot.
