so basically, i just experienced a split second power outage. my computer was running, I was playing battlefield 2, the lights and everything else in my house goes out, including my computer. then everything comes back in less than a second

now, this doesnt happen often and i do not have the money for the big UPS, but im assuming that that quick blackout was pretty damaging? i know people who leave their computers on 24/7, what happens when they arent home and some series of blackouts occur like that, wouldnt their computer be fucked?

I leave my machine on 24/7...
For a while, I had convinced myself that the "always on" state was healthier for the hardware, as the components don't expand and contract from the temperature variations of constantly being powered on/off.

Since then, I've just come to terms with the fact that it really is because I am insanely lazy, and too impatient to wait for my computer to boot up every time I want to jump online for a few minutes.
At any rate, I have never really had any problems with my always on machines... so go figure.

Don't lose sleep over the power outages though... they aren't nearly the hardware apocalypse that people tend to think they are. As long as you are protected from a return power surge, the odds of a simple power out actually causing a hardware problem are pretty slim (particularly on newer machines)

Every one of my UPS packages was $20 or less.
