Naix
I would suggest sticking with the AM2 cpus as they will give you a longer upgrade life.
The 939 is getting close to EOL (end of life) and if you go AM2 you upgrade the CPU without having to change motherboards.

It's time I added my $0.02 worth to this important discussion.

When assembling your rig, it's important to heed this simple warning.

Do not, under any circumstances fill your computer case with peanut butter. I've built several of my own machines, and a few more for my family. each and every time I've filled the case with peanut butter, things started to go haywire.

Ok Naix, I think this or the e6400 will be the right cpu to go with. Here is the e6300 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=2396

I know several folks said amd and were sceptical of the new intel chips but they are the real deal.

The performance crown has been taken by a long shot with the new ones and something even greater, they run very cool and take less watts to run than either the p4 or amd2. Maximum Pc just ran a 100% test on the extreme edition 6800 for 30 minutes with no fan at all, just a heatsink, and the temps only went up 3 degrees from idle.

Because of this, the o/c potential on these chips is huge. They also aren't planning on changing this socket for a while.

So now that we have your cpu nailed down we just need to look at the right motherboard/chipset combo and you should be ready to roll soon. The nvidia series for the core 2 duo will be the right way to go but they won't hit yet for a couple more weeks. The only one from newegg avail right now is the nvidea sli series which is overkill imo. sli is for the birds.
