Postby Ozzy0 » Tue Feb 14, 2006 3:33 pm

I'm getting a new comp soon and was wondering what you guys thought of alienwares or should i just build in and save money. But i dont wanna go through the hasle of bulding the comp and all that stuff. If there is another company that you suggest then plz tell ive looked at IBuyPower.com and Monarchcomptuers.com.

Alienware is cool, but highly overpriced.

If you can afford alienware hell ya. I build all my own but only to save money.

Also consider widowpc and falcon northwest for solid computers and support.

Good luck.

Don't know about taht one evil. Their advertised prices are misleading. IF you click for instance the $894.00 machine which looks good, you go in and realize that price is with no operating system and just a formatted disk, a questionable psu, and only 512 'value' ram. Once I added the operating system and another 512 of value ram the price was $1395.00 and that was with a fairly cheap mb, crap mouse, no software and cheap speakers. I think they are a decent company with above avg. reviews but if your price shopping make sure your comparing a computer part for part as this company can seem a little misleading there.

yea, ive noticed some of that too. I'll prob go with Falcon-NW cuz ive heard some awsome things about them and i love the custom paint jobs they done for their systems. I go to some LAN'S sometimes should i get a fragbox or a notebook? I've heard that the fragbox gets a lil too hot and i could always hook my notebook up to a monitor.

Desktop!!! If you get a notebook get a good video card in there and at least 1gig memory. You will be spending more to get that in a notebook than a desktop but sounds like money isn't an issue.

I have a dell insperion 9300 that I use for full time gaming and it handles BF2, UT 2k4, Q4 flawlessly. My specs are.

Inspiron 9300 Intel® Pentium® M Processor 740
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
Video Card 256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 6800
17" widescreen
60GB 7200rpm Hard Drive Win XP home

3D-05 below, without any overclocking

at the time, Fragetti puchaced a custom built lappy for the same price and it wasn't 1/2 as fast, he had the AMD 64 CPU, but a weaker gpu.

also, go to http://www.deals2buy.com and you'll see Dell coupons, new ones every week (thursdays I think) I knocked my rig down from $2200, to $1400.
Some guys will say go desk top, but I go to a few lans a year, and I had a small form that I carried on and borrowed a monitor at the lan, that sucked. Now I carry on my lappy with a mouse and a Nostromo and I'm set. Not to mention snagging wifi's at the airport or watching a dvd to kill time :D

also, I've gamed on mine for 8 hours straight and no heat issues.

thanks for the link evil. I had forgot about that one.

Well not a bad score evil but I don't think that will be running ut2k7 real well. It will work if you turn a lot of the options down but ..... desktops rule! 8)
