Hoss do some looking at a 6600gt or a 6800 vanilla. Both are directx 9 and support 3.0 shaders and blow the hell out of a 9700. I put a 9800pro up against a 6600gt about 6mo ago and the 9800pro was not even close.

If you can get one look at the benchmarking/price of some of the x850 vanilla flavors as they would be good too. I think there to expensive though. x700 are definately a back seat to the 6600 gt's but i haven't checked the x800 out in comparison to the 6600gt or 6800 plain.
