damn puter

Postby D1AMOND{RS} » Sat Jul 29, 2006 11:44 pm

ok so I am learning the ups and large downs of having a puter that you built yourself. After losing my 500 watt power supply(freak accident??)I replaced it. While replacing it I lose my on board 10/100 ethernet. How u say, well one minute I am on the internet, next I have lost a connection and finally lost everything. Windows gives me a code 10, and after updating ALL drivers nada!! Ok so I go to retailer, retailer sends me to maufacturer, and so on and so forth...man I am getting dizzy. Ok so Hopefully in the next few days I will get this resolved and be back up and running. Anyone got any suggestions?

Guess I'd make sure everything is properly seated in your case.; Especially the mobo against the standoffs since it sound like you had power problems.
I'd then do a good old fashioned reinstall. Make sure you load the drivers in the way the manufacturer specifies (my DFI board is picky about that). If the LAN still doesn't work I'd just stick a PCI card in it.

I would just put a new nic in. You can get them for like 12bucks if you look. I had my onboard fry on an asus board years ago and just used an add in.

What Nonstop said, DDD. I had the same exact problem and I've been building my own PCs for 12 years now. The onboard ethernet ports are very cheap and delicate. After mine fried I put in a NIC card and haven't had any problems since. Sorry for your problems dude. :(

Hope this helps, Prozac :)

sheesh, you amateurs.

Always make sure you are properly grounded, (as in wearing a wrist strap connected to building ground) when working on any electronics.

Get one of these and learn how to use it. Oh, and here's a saftey tip. You *might* be tempted to wear it on your 'off' hand and work with the other... DONT. If you come in contact with a live wire, *that* configuration sends the current right through your heart

I have two of those I used in my build and I have to say do not I say do not clamp them on to your bare nipple, it hurts bad.

Oh yeah and go back through and make sure everything is seated right.
